Scaffolding is an integral part of most work sites where there is any form of construction, maintenance or work activity over 10 feet (3 metres) in height.

Scaffolding is a safe, fixed or mobile working platform erected in order to gain safe access to the working area, and to protect the workers from falling as well as ensure those below are not injured by falling objects.

As with all worksite components, scaffolding can be subject to abuse, incorrect use or inadequate erection practices, and workers should be aware of the requirements for safe scaffolding. It should be erected by specially trained personnel, and initially inspected and regularly re-inspected to ensure it conforms to safe working practices and specifications.
